I’ve spent my life caring for others, tending to their wounds, both physical and emotional. But somewhere along the way, I neglected my own well-being. The weight crept on, a silent reminder of the years that had passed. I felt sluggish, tired, and out of touch with the vibrant woman I once was.
Nursing is a demanding profession, and the long hours, late nights, and constant stress took their toll. I found myself reaching for unhealthy comfort foods, skipping meals, and neglecting exercise. It was a vicious cycle, and I felt trapped.
I knew I had to make a change. I couldn’t continue to let my health decline. I started small, incorporating more fruits and vegetables into my diet, taking walks during my breaks, and trying to get a better night’s sleep. It was a challenge, but I was determined.
As the months went by, I started to see a difference. I had more energy, my mood improved, and I felt stronger. I even started to enjoy exercising! It was a revelation. I realized that taking care of myself wasn’t selfish; it was essential.
Now, I’m a healthier, happier person. I’ve rediscovered my love for life, and I’m inspired to help others on their own journeys to wellness. As a nurse, I know firsthand the importance of self-care. It’s not just about looking good; it’s about feeling good. And for me, that’s the greatest reward of all.
SIDE NOTE: I have HUGE respect for nurses. Long hours, hard work, very little thanks for all the amazing work you do. So it was great to see Gretchen take her health into her own hands. She owns it. #empowered
